On the eve of graduation at most universities on the island, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) announced it will give away a variety of gifts to prospective recruits, including drawings for 20 Xbox 360 game machines. Job seekers need to apply at the company's factories in the southern Taiwan city of Tainan.
The company is also offering mouse pads and Jack Wolfskin brand backpacks to graduates who sign up or interview for positions in Tainan.
TSMC should have little trouble attracting new workers. The company was voted the top choice for places to work in Taiwan in a poll of college students by 104 Corp., which runs Taiwan's most popular jobs Web site.
The chip maker plans to hire up to 3,600 people this year for a variety of jobs. TSMC has chip plants in Taiwan, China, Singapore and the U.S.
Technology companies in Taiwan compete aggressively to recruit engineers and often press the government to relax regulations to make it easier for overseas professionals, particularly from China, to work on the island.
TSMC uses Xbox 360 to lure new recruits
The world's largest contract chip maker is offering new job seekers a chance to win Xbox 360 game machines if they apply for positions at the company, a sign of how eager Taiwanese tech companies are to attract workers.
