Rackspace's hybrid Cloud utilises elements of public Cloud, private Cloud and/or dedicated servers to allow them to operate as one infrastructure.
451 Research's Agatha Poon, said, "the availability of hybrid Cloud models where customers can mix and match Cloud and dedicated servers in an integrated manner is strategically important to accelerate IT transformation."
According to Rackspace Australia director and general manager, Angus Dorney, the hybrid Cloud option will shift the way in which Australian companies make their purchasing decisions.
"As Cloud adoption increases in Australia, business are becoming more aware of proprietary technologies that lock them in to specific architectures and vendors," he said. "Today's news free Australian businesses from the vendor lock-in that they face at other major Cloud providers, and provides choice for them to deploy an open hybrid Cloud."
Rackspace's Sydney datacentre, which opened in February, will contribute in catering to the demand from Australian businesses for managed virtualisation; the Rackspace hybrid Cloud is now available to customers in the local datacentre.
Australian online retailer, Kogan, is one of the first adopters of the local hybrid Cloud, looking to the service to assist in scaling its infrastructure to cater for growth. Commenting on the move, Kogan director of technology, Goran Stefkovski, said, "We're confident in a seamless transition with the fanatical support we receive from Rackspace, and we can't wait to give our customers an even better shopping experience."
