Samsung will distribute Yahoo services including Go for Mobile 2.0, Yahoo oneSearch, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger, and Yahoo Personal Information Management on millions of new phones in more than 60 countries, the company said Monday.
Yahoo unveiled a beta version of Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0 at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week. The services includes oneSearch, a new search engine for mobile devices.
Samsung has already launched its first mobile handset pre-loaded with Yahoo search, the SGH-E570. It plans to greatly expand the number of handsets that come with Yahoo services this year, and will roll out oneSearch after it goes live in the coming months, it said. The phones will be available to consumers through both mobile operators and direct channels, the company said.
Recognizing that a segment of users may want services from Google, Samsung will also offer Google Maps for mobile, Google search, and Gmail for mobile devices on select handsets, the company said in a separate announcement Tuesday.
Samsung has also launched the SGH-Z720, its first handset installed with Google mobile search and Gmail services. The phone is ready for HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), a 3G (third generation) mobile telephony protocol, the company said.
