Turbolinux buys Japanese PHP company

Turbolinux bought a 90 percent stake in Zend from Open Source Japan Ltd., Zend's parent company, with a view to increasing distribution of its PHP development tools. Zend will remain the exclusive distributor for its Zend products, along with sales and support for Turbolinux.

Negotiations for the deal were completed March 30 but not announced until April 5.

Turbolinux claims leadership in Linux operating system sales in both China and Japan, with over 60 percent of China Linux sales, it said.
