The acquisition is expected to close by the end of the calendar year, at which point Vyatta will be merged into the software networking business unit, led by Brocade routing, application delivery and software networking group vice-president, Ken Chang.
According to Brocade CEO, Mike Klayko, the acquisition complements the vendor's broad industry and solutions-level partnerships that enable it to pursue new market opportunities in datacentre virtualisation, public Cloud, enterprise virtual private Cloud, and managed services.
"We are now bolstering these 'build and partner' efforts with this strategic acquisition with the goal of being the innovation and thought leader in the software networking category," Klayko said.
Brocade plans to utilise Vyatta technology and expertise with the goal of offering its customers an end-to-end architecture built on a highly virtualised, dynamic network infrastructure. This virtualised datacentre infrastructure promises to make both service providers and enterprises more agile through accelerated deployment and reduced development cycles in their networks.
Brocade said that it also enables it to extend its open datacentre fabric and IP networking technologies directly into any number of server hypervisor environments, giving customers choice and flexibility in selection the correct solution.
